Thurrock Council

Anti Social Behaviour (ASB) Team

Thurrock Council’s Anti-Social Behaviour Team (ASB), consisting of a Manager, Three case workers and an investigation support officer, aim to work with residents, tenants, workers and visitors to Thurrock to resolve incidents of anti-social behaviour.

The council defines anti-social behaviour as anything, which reduces the quality of people’s life by causing them alarm, harassment or distress.

Examples of anti-social behaviour may include neighbour/noise nuisance, dog fouling and other green issues, misuse of alcohol and bad behaviour by under age young people and many others.

All complaints will be recorded on the ASB database system and investigated either by the team or in connection with other agencies and departments such as the Police, Housing Department and Environmental Health.

The team recognises that early intervention with the parties involved should be attempted to resolve the complaint and prevent deterioration of the situation leading to greater suffering by the complainants.

The team also recognises that there is fine balance to be maintained between the needs of the complaints and the perpetrators who are sometimes vulnerable. In all cases the team will look to implement the most appropriate action against the perpetrators whether that be court action to seek Anti-social behaviour orders, injunctions, evictions or at the lowest scale verbal warnings.
