Thurrock Council makes budgets available to 20 Community Forums covering the whole of the borough. These funds are intended to support local communities take a pro-active role in taking positive action towards neighbourhood improvements.
Sometimes this happens via small grants to independent groups or residents (meeting the costs of a community event). Sometimes this happens via prioritising works that the Council then carries out at the request of the forum (traffic calming measures or street furniture).
Community Forums are managed by volunteer committees. Their success depends on the ongoing support of the wider community. The allocation of funds is dependent on a number of criteria and guidelines. A forum will normally expect some ongoing support from residents / local organisations to the forum in return for negotiating the funding.
